Since the experience of writing a personal statement can be both exciting and stressful at the same time, I have seen over the years that once a college-bound student I am working with sees an example of a fully realized essay, they soon feel a sense of relief. It’s as if a big mystery has been solved for them. That is why I suggest going online and browsing through a handful of personal statements to get a feel for how this type of essay is written. Certainly, each essay is unique as it reflects the applicant who authors it. And of course, your essay will be expressively yours!
Here is a list of five personal statements that top colleges/universities have posted from recent application cycles. In doing so, each school respectively gives prospective students insight into the type of narratives that ‘work for them’.
