Teaching Services

As a formally trained educator, I received an excellent education at Teachers College, Columbia University where I engaged in rigorous classroom teacher training, curriculum building, and academic research in the field of art education. Further, I enrolled in special education courses to support the needs of all learners as part of my graduate studies.  And later on in my career, I obtained a certification to teach English to non-native English speakers. With that said, I am able to serve a wide range of students through individualized instructions. Through one-to-one video calls via Zoom, I coordinate meetings based on the student’s time zone.

01 Academic Writing Course

From January through June, I offer an academic writing course for high school students who would like to acquire college-level preparedness. The course duration is six weeks (90 minutes per meeting – six meetings in total). There are also weekly homework assignments.

The academic writing course covers topics on how to effectively structure essays, formulate clear thesis statements, and how to conduct critical analyses. Based on different writing assignments, I provide students with guidance on how to build robust arguments and how to back up their claims with evidence. I also teach them how to draft, revise, and critically edit their work.

02 Creative Writing Course

From January through June, I offer a creative writing course for sophomores and juniors to prepare them for the written component of the American undergraduate college application. The course duration is six weeks (90 minutes per meeting – six meetings in total). There are also weekly homework assignments.

Since this form of writing is not generally covered in the standard English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum in U.S. high schools, I provide instruction on how to approach personal narrative writing by teaching students how to structure the narrative essay and how to infuse it with descriptive language.

Further, the creative writing course covers topics on character development, setting, dialogue, use of inner monologue, and how to create pivotal moments. I also provide instruction on how to draft, revise, and edit their work with an emphasis on logical and chronological storytelling.
